Pyongyang, January 14 (KCNA) — The DPRK women’s football team took the second place at the 11th Asian Women’s Football Championships which was held in December last year, so it is qualified to participate in the 3rd World Women’s Football Championships.
It outplayed Uzbekistan 8:0, Philippines 14:1 and Japan 1:0 in the Asian championships.
It scored 24 goals in five matches.
Kim Kum Sil kicked nine goals and Pak Jong Ae and Ri Hyang Ok five goals respectively.
Kim Kum Sil, who was born into an ordinary worker’s family, scored sixth goals in the match with Philippines, two goals with Uzbekistan and one goal with Japan.
Kim Kum Sil and Pak Jong Ae, who held the limelight in the championships, were awarded prizes for their scores by the Asian Football Confederation.
The chief coach of the team is People’s Sportsman Myong Tong Chan and its coaches are Ri Hui Chol and Jo Yong Chol.
The average age of the team players is 24.4.
The team was organized in 1986.
The players and coaches are now making preparation for the 3rd World Women’s Football Championships which will be held in the United States in May, 1999.
