“Paektusan Prize” sports contest opens

Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) — The “Paektusan Prize” sports contest has opened with the approach of the auspicious holiday of February.

The contest includes 20 odd events such as basketball, track and field, volleyball, table tennis, handball, boxing, Judo, wrestling, ice-figure and swimming in Pyongyang, Hyesan and Samjiyon until the end of February.
Present at the opening ceremony in Pyongyang on Feb. 4 were Kim Jung Rin, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Jang Chol, Vice-Premier of the Administration Council, and other officials concerned.
Pak Myong Chol, Chairman of the State Commission of Physical Culture and Sports, in his opening address said that the contest would be a good opportunity to display sports techniques of sportsmen and sportswomen who have trained themselves under the loving care of the party and develop the physical culture and sports of the country. He laid stress on making a great success in the contest.
