Indefinite general strike declared in S. Korea

Pyongyang, September 24 (KCNA) — The “National Federation of Financial Trade Unions” of South Korea reportedly held a rally attended by more than 5,000 unionists in Seoul on September 19 and called an indefinite general strike.

The organisation called attention to an attempt of the “government” and a financial control committee to sack 40-50 percent of the clerks, and called upon the “government” and the management side to withdraw a “structural adjustment” programme.
It also said that in case the authorities do not withdraw a mass lay-off programme, nine bank trade unions will go on a general strike from Sept. 29.
