Pyongyang, December 7 (KCNA) — General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected Kum Song lifeguard unit no. 776 of the Korean People’s Army on Monday.
He was accompanied by director of the KPA general political department Jo Myong Rok, chief of the KPA general staff Kim Yong Chun, and staff members of the supreme command of the KPA.
After receiving a salute, he climbed up the hill and watched soldiers in training.
He noted with great satisfaction that all the soldiers had grown to be invincible fighters able to defeat the attack of any formidable enemy at one stroke. He gave the unit important tasks to increase its fighting efficiency.
He then looked round the education room, bedroom, fish pond, swimming pool and other entertainment, educational and logistic facilities of the unit. He highly praised the unit’s soldiers for having made enormous achievements in strengthening the combat capacity of the unit and providing the soldiers with better living conditions.
He learned about all problems in the management of the unit such as television watching, plan of the use of the swimming pool, heating of the bedroom and organisation of sideline production, and solved all the problems.
If the unit makes good use of the logistic bases, it can benefit from them greatly, he said, and called for increasing the production of vegetables and breeding the fast-growing, nutritious tropical catfish extensively so that the soldiers may be supplied with enough fresh vegetables and fresh-water fish all the year round.
He gave the officers and men of the unit a pair of binoculars and an automatic rifle as gifts, in the belief that they would always display the honor of guards in the van of the advancing ranks.
He had a picture taken with them.
