Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) — The south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions reportedly issued a statement on August 18 denouncing the murderous police crackdown on workers.
Recalling that armed police on August 17 surprised and committed indiscriminate crackdown on more than 3,000 workers when they were having lunch in front of a company building in Phohang prior to a rally of the confederation for the right to existence, the statement said it could no but express shock and consternation.
After brutally repressing the defenseless workers, the police authorities threw an armed force into a savage crackdown when the workers were holding the rally, said the statement.
Such violence of the police, the statement continued, clearly proved that the policy of the authorities toward the part-time workers was a policy of throttling workers.
It demanded that the authorities immediately arrest and punish the police officers who committed the ruthless suppression in Phohang, release the arrested workers at once and stop crackdown.
