Pyongyang, April 23 (KCNA) — The South Headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country’s Reunification reportedly issued a statement on April 19 on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the April 19 popular uprising.
The statement said that the popular uprising dealt a telling blow at the pro-U.S. dictatorial regime of Syngman Rhee and recorded a brilliant page in the history of anti-U.S. and anti-fascist struggle for democracy. The desire of the participants in the uprising has not come true until this year, the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the country, it added.
The statement stressed that it is a bitter lesson taught by the martyrs that it is impossible to achieve independent reunification nor is it possible to build a new society unless the U.S. troops are withdrawn from this land to the last man and pro-U.S. ultra-right conservative forces be totally eliminated.
The headquarters will give full play to the enthusiasm of the patriotic youth and students and turn out in the general march against the U.S. and war and for the withdrawal of the U.S. troops this year, drawing that lesson, the statement concluded.
