Immediate Release of Arrested Unionists Demanded in S. Korea

Pyongyang, May 28 (KCNA) — Ri Yong Sun, member of the south Korean National Assembly from the Democratic Workers’ Party, held a press conference at the NA building on May 24 to demand the immediate release of the 700 odd members of the Ulsan Construction Workers’ Union who had been arrested while staging a legal demonstration for the guarantee of their right to existence, according to the south Korean MBC.

Noting that they demanded the most elementary right as human beings, not an unreasonable wage hike, the lawmaker held that the chief of the police office deserved to be punished for resorting to violence against the demonstrators.

The employers and the Ministry of Labor are primarily to blame for this crisis as they paid no heed to the demand of the workers, the speaker added.
