Crackdown upon Anti-U.S. Actions under Fire in S. Korea

Pyongyang, June 9 (KCNA) — The Youth and Students Solidarity of south Korea to Implement the June 15 Joint South-North Joint Declaration reportedly made public a statement on June 4 denouncing the U.S. and the south Korean police authorities’ brutal crackdown upon the anti-U.S. actions.

The statement said: The police authorities arrested for no reason Paek Yong Hyon, chairman of the Kwangju and South Jolla Provincial Federation of University Student Councils, on the charge that he spearheaded the struggle demanding the withdrawal of the U.S. troops from south Korea staged in front of the U.S. forces’ base in Songjong-ri on May 15 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Kwangju Popular Uprising. This outrage was followed by their arrest of Ri Sang Bom, student of Hanyang University. This suppression reminds one of the days of the fascist dictatorship in the past.

All these outrages are being perpetrated at the zealous instigation of the U.S.

The statement demanded the U.S. forces quit south Korea as they drive the police to the violent crackdown upon anti-U.S. demonstrations.

The statement warned that the police authorities should bear in mind that they will come under fire by the nation, should they continue yielding to the U.S. pressure to suppress the people, far from protecting them.
