Fifth Anniversary of June 15 Joint Declaration Marked in Seoul

Pyongyang, June 17 (KCNA) — A commemorative ceremony and a reunification concert were reportedly held to mark the fifth anniversary of the publication of the June 15 joint declaration on Wednesday evening in Seoul under the sponsorship of the South Side’s Preparatory Committee for Joint Functions of Koreans in the North and the South and Overseas with at least 700 citizens and students in attendance.

Co-representative Kim Sang Gun and advisor Kwon O Hyon of the south side’s preparatory committee in their speeches at the ceremony called on the people to show to the world, through actions for sincerely implementing the joint declaration by the concerted efforts of the Koreans, that no obstacle and military threat can turn back their steps toward peace and reunification.

Noting that the grand festival for national reunification this year is the first event after the formation of the preparatory committee for joint functions, the most comprehensive and powerful reunification organization, they said it serves as an occasion for putting the movement for the implementation of the joint declaration on a higher stage. They stressed that the declaration for national reunification adopted in Pyongyang is mighty enough to smash the U.S. imperialists’ war moves and obstructions to Korea’s reunification with national strength.

When the declaration for national reunification was read out the participants sent balloons into the sky, shouting “Long live national reunification!” and “Long live June 15 joint declaration!”

Then a reunification concert followed.
