Special Envoy of DPRK Government Speaks at South Summit

Pyongyang, June 19 (KCNA) — The government and people of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea will fulfill their responsibility and duty to expand and develop south-south cooperation so as to contribute to building a peaceful, prosperous and independent world.

Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Choe Su Hon, who is a special envoy of the DPRK government, said this in a speech at the 2nd South Summit held in Qatar on June 15 and 16.

He expressed the conviction that the summit would be a historic occasion of demonstrating once again the political will and united might of South countries to establish a fair international economic order and strengthen south-south cooperation.
Stating that unilateralism based on the idea of “strength almighty” is violating the rules and order of international relations and posing a serious threat to economic development of South countries, he went on:

The DPRK delegation considers that the summit should pay a special attention to the following issues in adopting the strategy of development and action program of the South to cope with the present challenges:

First, the current summit should be an opportunity to commit itself once again to the firm political will of the South countries to cope with the present international challenges with their concerted efforts.

Second, the summit should be an occasion of further developing south-south cooperation based on collective self-reliance and give great vigor to establishing new economic relations among the South countries.

Third, the summit should be an occasion of taking practical measures for joint action to provide favorable international circumstances and conditions for the economic growth and development of those countries.

The constant socio-political stability in the DPRK serves as a basic motive force and a firm guarantee for the sustained development of economy and dynamic development of south-south cooperation between developing countries, he noted, and stressed:

The DPRK has consistently maintained the idea on south-south cooperation created by President Kim Il Sung as one of fundamental guidelines of its foreign policy line and made a possible contribution to materializing the joint strategy and joint action of the South countries.
