Kim Jong Il Enjoys Performance Given by Russian Artistes

Pyongyang, July 5 (KCNA) — Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defence Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Monday enjoyed a performance given by the visiting State Academic Moiseyev Dance Company of Russia.

He was greeted at the theatre by Head of the dance company Elena Scherbakova, Russian Ambassador to the DPRK Andrei Karlov and his wife.

He extended thanks to the artistes of the dance company for having given enthusiastic performances in the capital and local areas during their tour of the DPRK, delighting and inspiring its servicepersons and people. He had a cordial conversation with the guests.

When he appeared in the auditorium of the theatre, the whole audience enthusiastically welcomed him with a thunderous applause.

Artistes of the dance company presented him with bouquets representing their reverence for him and offered him best wishes.

Among the audiences were Choe Thae Bok, Kim Kuk Thae and Kim Ki Nam, secretaries of the Central Committee of the WPK, Kang Sok Ju, first vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, senior officials of the Party and the army and officials of cultural, art and media institutions.

Also appreciating the performance were the head of the dance company, the Russian ambassador to the DPRK and staff members of the Russian embassy.

The artistes put on the stage colorful numbers such as dance suite of Ancient Russia, Russian dances, a Korean dance, a Chinese ribbon dance, a Moldovan witticism dance and a Polish dance.
Through the performance they truthfully represented with high artistry the optimistic life and national emotion and peculiar lifestyle of the Russians and various nations, thus strikingly demonstrating the appearance of the dance company with a long history and tradition.

Kim Jong Il sent a floral basket to the artistes, congratulating them on their successful performance.
