Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) — Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, inspected the command of KPA Unit 118.
The Unit is known to have registered signal results in various battles during the last Fatherland Liberation War and produced in this course 23 heroes of the Republic and many other recipients of state orders.
Guided by the commander of the unit, he looked round the room devoted to its history. Noting that the unit has performed great exploits not only during the war but in the period of socialist construction by fully displaying the heroic spirit of the Korean People’s Army, he called on the servicepersons of the unit to demonstrate the mettle to win one victory after another in the future, too by preserving the glorious tradition of struggle.
Seeing materials on those soldiers of distinguished service who have devoted themselves to increasing the combat capability of the unit, serving in it for years, he praised them as unforgettable comrades intensely loyal to the Party and the revolution and took a measure to glorify their feats.
The hearts of the servicepersons of the KPA are now beating high with the revolutionary soldier spirit the core of which is the spirit of devotedly defending the leader, the spirit of devotedly implementing his instructions and the heroic self-sacrificing spirit, he noted, adding that no force on earth can match the KPA which considers this great revolutionary spirit symbolizing and representing the era of Songun as its blood and soul.
He dropped in at the operation command room to learn about the unit’s performance of duty. He was satisfied to learn that the servicepersons of the unit are reliably standing guard over the defence line of the country, firmly equipped with the Juche-oriented war methods of the WPK.
After acquainting himself with the training at the military lecture room, he praised the unit for having successfully built the room and put the training on a regular basis so that all commanding officers might acquire versatile military knowledge.
He underscored the need to focus efforts on the work to thoroughly implement the WPK’s policy of training.
Commanding a bird’s-eye-view of the greenery and thick woodland where the command is situated, he highly appreciated the commanding officers and men of the unit for having spruced up the compound of the barracks and its surroundings and assiduously managed the unit and its economic life, following the lifestyle of the anti-Japanese guerilla army.
He paid deep attention to the service and living of the servicepersons, going round entertainment and logistic facilities.
He appreciated the efforts made by the unit, saying it is very gratifying to note that the unit has built modern entertainment and logistic facilities by fully applying the way the anti-Japanese guerilla army managed the unit and its commanding officers and their families, in particular, have looked after the servicepersons’ living as their parents would do.
He had a photo session with the servicepersons of the unit.
He was accompanied by Ri Yong Chol, member of the Central Military Commission of the WPK and first vice department director of its Central Committee, and Hwang Pyong So, vice department director of its Central Committee.
