Giant Progress in Modernization of Communications

Pyongyang, March 9 (KCNA) — Leader Kim Jong Il visited the Pyongyang Earth Station on March 4, Juche 75 (1986). Over the last two decades, many successes have been made in the modernization of communications.

The modernization of the station makes it possible to fully ensure reception and transmission of telegraph, telephone and telex with other countries. And facilities including switchboards and communication method based on high-technology have been introduced and their operation computerized so as to remarkably boost the speed and capacity of communications.

The establishment of TV relay system by satellites also makes it possible to telecast more events and facts that are taking place at home and abroad.
The radio capacity has been improved and radio channels have been diversified.
During the “Arduous March” and forced march, the difficult years for the country, the optical fiber cable has found its way to provinces, cities, counties and rural villages.
Meanwhile, cars and other transport means were provided to post service and latest scientific and technological successes fully introduced to strengthen the material and technical foundation in the field.

The modernization of communications is promoted this year, too, as required by the Songun and IT era.
