Actions for Defence of Food Sovereignty Declared in S. Korea

Pyongyang, March 16 (KCNA) — The Agricultural, Stock-breeding and Fishery Committee of Emergency Measures against FTA grouping 36 peasants organizations of south Korea reportedly held its inaugural meeting on Mar. 9 in Seoul to vow to defend the food sovereignty.

So Jong Ui, chairman of the Central Association of Agricultural Managers of south Korea, and other speakers said that with the inauguration of the committee as a momentum they would unite as one to check the negotiations for the conclusion of shackling FTA and defend the food sovereignty.

The inaugural declaration accused the south Korean “government” of resuming the import of U.S. beef even before the start of the negotiations, deciding to cut down the screen quota of south Korean films and unilaterally relinquishing the right to the production of vehicles and medicines to the U.S.

The committee will conduct strong solidarity activities to protect the food sovereignty from the “government’s” unilateral opening of agricultural market, the declaration warned.
