Anti-U.S., Anti-War Struggle Called for in S. Korea

Pyongyang, March 25 (KCNA) — A joint rally of youth and students to vow actions against the U.S. and war reportedly took place near Kwanghwamun in Seoul on Mar. 19 under the co-sponsorship of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country’s Reunification (Pomchonghakryon), the Youth and Students Solidarity to Implement the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration, the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils, the south Korean Council of Youth Organizations and the Youth Committee of the Democratic Workers’ Party.

Speakers at the rally charged that the large-scale RSOI and “Foal Eagle” joint military exercises to be staged from Mar. 25 are not for a defensive purpose but outright maneuvers for preempting a nuclear attack on the north. .

The danger of the projected maneuvers lies in that they are the first to be staged after south Korea agreed upon the “strategic flexibility” of the U.S. forces present in south Korea, they said.
A joint declaration issued at the rally called upon the youth and students to rise up as one in actions against the U.S. and war and for the withdrawal of the U.S. forces from south Korea, adding that the peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula are not achievable as long as the U.S. troops stay in south Korea. .

A joint resolution of the South Headquarters, the North Headquarters and the Overseas Headquarters of Pomchonghakryon was read out at the rally before an art performance was given on the theme of the peace against war and the independent reunification.
