Halt to S. Korea- U.S. Joint Military Exercises Called for

Pyongyang, March 25 (KCNA) — The People for Achieving Peace and Reunification, the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country’s Reunification and other civic and public organizations of south Korea reportedly held a press conference in front of the U.S. military base in Ryongsan of Seoul on March 20 at which they called for checking the south Korea-U.S. joint military exercises through a powerful international joint struggle.

At the press conference speakers said that the current military exercises are, in fact, the south Korea-U.S.-Japan tripartite exercises for a preemptive attack on the north as the U.S. forces not only in south Korea but also in Guam and Japan are participating in the exercises.

The aggressive character of the war exercises has been made clear as they are to be staged with Phyongthaek area near the Military Demarcation Line as a stronghold on the basis of the aggressive “OPLAN 5027-04” aimed at overturning the north, they stressed.
A press release read out said that the danger of the war exercises lies in that they may go over to a total war anytime. It strongly called for putting a stop to the joint military exercises to force the confrontation between the south and the north and increase the crisis of war to lay a grave obstacle to establishing peace mechanism in the Korean Peninsula.

Meanwhile, the representative of the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification called for solidarity struggle at a rally against the expansion of the U.S. military base held in Iwakuni of Japan on the same day.

A similar rally took place in Guam.
