Kim Jong Il Sends Message of Greetings to Syrian President

Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA) — Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, Sunday sent a message of greetings to Bashar Al-Assad, secretary of the Regional Leadership of the Arab Socialist Baath Party and president of the Syrian Arab Republic, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of independence of his country.

The message noted that following the independence the Syrian people have achieved many successes in their work to develop the country and seek a fair and comprehensive settlement of the Mideast issue, while frustrating the threat and pressure of the hostile forces.

The Korean people sincerely rejoice over all the successes made by the Syrian people over their own and will extend full support and solidarity to them in the just struggle to defend the sovereignty of the country and dignity of the nation under the unerring leadership of the Arab Socialist Baath Party in the future, too, the message added.
Expressing the belief that the friendly and cooperative bonds between the two peoples would steadily grow stronger, the message wholeheartedly wished him good health and happiness and his friendly people fresh progress and prosperity.
