Reception Given in Beijing to Mark Treaty Anniversary

Beijing, July 11 (KCNA) — The Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the China-Korea Friendship Association hosted a reception in Beijing on July 11 to mark the 45th anniversary of the DPRK-China Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance.

Present there on invitation were members of a DPRK friendship delegation led by Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly, now on an official goodwill visit to China to participate in the celebrations of the 45th anniversary of the treaty, and members of a delegation of the DPRK-China Friendship Association led by Ri Yong Dok, vice-chairman of its Central Committee and vice-director of the Pyongyang City Public Service Guidance Bureau, DPRK Ambassador to China Choe Jin Su and officials of the DPRK embassy.

On hand were Xu Jialu, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, Chairwoman Li Shuzheng and Vice-Chairman Pei Jiayi of the China-DPRK Friendship Association, the vice-chairman of the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament and officials concerned.

Li Shuzheng in her speech said that President Kim Il Sung and Premier Zhou Enlai signed the treaty 45 years ago, thus codifying in a treaty form the deep friendship between the peoples of the two countries forged in the protracted revolutionary struggle and socialist construction. Since then the treaty has served as a common principle to govern the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries, she added.

General Secretary Hu Jintao paid a successful official goodwill visit to the DPRK in October last year and General Secretary Kim Jong Il paid an unofficial visit to China again early this year, she noted, stressing that their visits helped further promote the mutual understanding, trust and friendship between the two countries.

Pointing out that it is the invariable policy of the Communist Party and government of China and the genuine desire of the Chinese people to consolidate and develop the traditional Sino-Korean friendship, she said that the Chinese people together with the Korean comrades will as ever make sustained efforts to carry forward and glorify the Sino-Korean friendship in the basic spirit of the above-said treaty.
