Pyongyang, July 15 (KCNA) — Press conferences and meeting were held in Seoul on July 10 against the backdrop of the mounting struggle against the negotiations for the conclusion of the south Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement.
The Headquarters of the All-People Movement for Checking south Korea-U.S FTA held a press conference in front of the Jangchung Gymnasium and issued a press release.
Recalling that the “government” accepted the unilateral demands of the U.S. even before the second round of negotiations for the conclusion of FTA started, the press release deplored that this would throw south Korea into the whirlwind of restructuring aimed at serving the interests of U.S. capital once again and the people’s living into a crisis.
Members of the Solidarity Council of Civic and Public Organizations grouping at least 400 civic and public organizations, the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and the Federation of south Korean Trade Unions and the Council of Industrial Unions of U.S. Federation of Trade Unions separately held press conferences on the same day and demanded the south Korean authorities stop the conclusion of the treacherous agreement.
Then followed a meeting. Speakers there warned that the “government” cracking down upon the people’s struggle with violence will be forsaken by the people.
At the end of the meeting the participants held a candlelight meeting and staged a demonstration and sit-in strike.
The chairman of the south Korean Federation of Peasants Associations issued a statement on July 11 in which he demanded a stop to the negotiations for the conclusion of FTA. The statement warned that if the “government” holds negotiations, ignoring the will of the people, it will face an all-people resistance.
