Pyongyang, July 16 (KCNA) — An extensive struggle to check negotiations on the conclusion of the south Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement was reportedly held in Seoul on July 12 with the attendance of more than 35,000 south Korean people of all strata.
Rallies of workers, peasants and the poor took place in front of Seoul Railway Station and the Seoul City Office and at the Thapgol Park.
At the end of rallies participants gathered in front of the Seoul City Office to hold the second all-people rally for checking the FTA.
Then they were divided into two ranks to make demonstration marches.
When over 20,000 peasant demonstrators reached around Kwanghwamun, police blocked their march with buses and barricades and fired water blasts at them, wielding shields and clubs.
Some of demonstrators attempted to march toward Chongwadae.
Meanwhile, more than 10,000 workers and members of civic and public organizations broke through the blockade of police in front of Jongro District Office and marched to the Sejong House of Culture through the surroundings of the U.S. embassy.
During the demonstration they occupied the U.S. embassy for a while.
After the demonstration they held a rally in front of the U.S. embassy.
