Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) — The DPRK has paid big efforts to using solar energy in an effective way.
The Natural Energy Institute under the State Academy of Sciences has recently developed solar heat technologies applicable to greenhouse, water heater and so on.
In particular, light solar collectors have been introduced into families of the lowland to solve the shortage of firewood for cooking meals.
The newly developed collector is lighter in weight and lower in production coast than existing ones.
It was highly appreciated at the National Exhibition of Achievements of Young Scientists and Technicians.
Hongwon County in South Hamgyong Province has produced solar cooker with locally available raw materials. The Ponghwa Co-op Farm of the county has introduced more than 100 cookers to be well received by housewives.
Besides, different kinds of apparatuses based on solar energy have been developed by several units, including the North Hwanghae Provincial People’s Hospital.
