Pyongyang, January 21 (KCNA) — Sinam-ri, Ryongchon County, North Phyongan Province in the DPRK is well-known for Ssirum (Korean wrestling) as it has produced a number of Ssirum aces.
The Hero Sinam Senior Secondary School in the county has always won in the Ssirum event of the National Schoolchildren’s Sports Contest for Jongilbong Prize.
According to a physical education teacher, the school began teaching students how to play Ssirum scores of years ago in order to train their body and mind and ten-odd graduates won the title of DPRK Hero.
Zeal for Ssirum is running high among peasants of the Sinam Co-op Farm in the county, too.
The Ssirum aces produced by the county include Ri Jong Chol who took the first place in the catch-weight event of the 10th People’s Games, Rim Tae Myong who won in the 60kg category event of the 8th Grand Bull Prize National Ssirum Contest and Jo Myong Jin who came first at the 12th Grand Bull Prize National Ssirum Contest last year.
