Pyongyang, December 16 (KCNA) — The Central Nursery under the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection of the DPRK is one of the leading sapling producers, which is associated with the great feats leader Kim Jong Il performed for afforesting the country.
Kim Jong Il visited the nursery in October Juche 100 (2011), the last year of his life, and called for handing down to the coming generation the beautiful homeland which is thickly wooded and alive with all sorts of flowers.
True to his call, the nursery has produced over 90 millions saplings of over 180 species in the past five years to send them to nurseries and forestry stations throughout the country.
This year alone, the nursery raised more than 29.6 millions saplings of tens of species, including Larix lepolepis and Pinus rigida.
It sent nearly 50 000 Pinus strobes saplings to 50-odd units and 395 000 saplings of good species to the flood-hit northern parts of the country.
The nursery cleared scores of hectares of land for sapling cultivation, where sprayers and sunshades are installed, and built a scientific research room fully equipped with modern facilities.
It succeeded in establishing a method for planting trees in summer and made achievements in acclimatizing beech.
Meanwhile, the nursery has carried on regular consultation with nurseries in every province, city and county through video conferencing system.
Its Manager Ri Yong Sik told KCNA that officials and employees of the nursery will make positive contribution to increasing the forest resources of the country by further upgrading it.
