Pyongyang, April 30 (KCNA) — Han Song Ryol, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK for U.S. Affairs, met with Matsegora, Russian ambassador to the DPRK, on Sunday to exchange the views on the present situation on the Korean peninsula.
The DPRK side said that the largest-ever DPRK-targeted joint military exercises of the U.S. and its buildup of strategic assets are the root cause of the tensions on the Korean peninsula, and expressed its stand to steadily take measures to bolster up its nuclear deterrence in order to defend the sovereignty and vital rights of the country and the peace on the peninsula from the U.S. nuclear war threat.
The Russian side expressed its understanding of the stand of the DPRK and hoped the tensions on the Korean peninsula would be defused as soon as possible.
Both sides agreed to boost cooperation in various fields in line with the long-standing friendly relations.
