Rodong Sinmun Calls for Bolstering Up Military Strength

Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) — Only when a country has a mighty military capability can it firmly defend its dignity, people’s happiness and peace, Rodong Sinmun says in an article Friday.

The article goes on:
To bolster up the military strength is not a temporary work but a nation’s everlasting top priority.
The arms of the service personnel equipped with no ideology, with no anti-imperialist class consciousness, are more useless than a stick. They would make a trouble.
Recorded in history are not a few events that such service members destroyed the gains of revolution achieved by the forerunners and made no scruple of aiming at the people in the struggle to defend their own social system.
The arms not relying on the self-supporting defense industry can not safeguard the nation’s dignity, the people’s happiness and peace to the last.
For a country to equip its forces with arms of so-called developed countries leads to military subordination.
Some countries known as regional powers and relatively rich countries failed to augment the military capability due to the sanctions of the U.S. and other imperialist powers.
The main reason is that they met the demand for the weapons by purchasing them from other countries as they failed to firmly arm the service personnel with the anti-imperialist independent consciousness and had a weak self-supporting defense industry foundation.
It resulted in the imperialists’ trampling on the sovereignty of those countries and turning them into war-torn ones.
The army and people of the DPRK will hold fast to the Workers’ Party of Korea’s new line of simultaneously developing the two fronts, put greater efforts to its implementation and thus further bolster up the military capability for self-defense.
