Pyongyang, January 22 (KCNA) — The 23rd Paektusan Prize Sports Contest among Officials of National Institutions was opened with due ceremony at the Basketball Gymnasium in Chongchun Street here Monday to mark the birth anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il.
The contest is to be held on a knock-out basis being divided into four groups. The participants will compete in basketball, volleyball, badminton, Taekwon-do and shooting events at the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium, the Taekwon-Do Hall, the Basketball Gymnasium in Chongchun Street, the Meari Shooting Gallery and other places.
At the same time, tug of war and other diverse sporting and amusement games will also take place.
Present at the opening ceremony were Choe Hwi, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea who is chairman of the National Sports Guidance Committee, and other officials concerned and officials and players of ministries and national institutions.
